Man Arrested for Attacking A 2-Year-Old Stepdaughter with Shovel

A 37-year-old man Abedinico Moyo from Siyephi Village, Chief Kandana area, in Plumtree, Matabeleland South Province, has been arrested for allegedly attacking his two-year-old stepdaughter with a shovel following a domestic dispute with her mother.

The mother told him she didn’t want to keep their relationship going, and that’s when the incident happened.

Abedinico Moyo made an appearance before Joshua Nembaware, the Plumtree magistrate, to answer to allegations of physical abuse. He was placed under arrest on remand until April 26 without being forced to enter a plea.

The victim’s mother, Patience Nyathi, was with Moyo on April 14 at around 4 p.m., according to court documents, when she said that she was ending their relationship because it was unsustainable.

Seeing this, Moyo became furious and insisted that Nyathi give back every penny he had given her while they were together.

Moyo was furious and reached for a shovel nearby, intending to hit Nyathi, who was cradling the infant. But he missed his mark, and the shovel gave the toddler a single blow on the skull.

The toddler received medical attention for a serious cut to the head as a result of the incident and was sent to the hospital right away. After the police were notified of the event, Moyo was taken into custody.
