Chief Chitemere and Councilor Kuda Majome, alongside health and social workers, joined forces with Breaking Barriers Disability Zimbabwe, a local non-profit led by co-founder and CEO Mr. Lonestar Makoni, for an outreach program in Mhondoro District.
Their mission includes providing free health evaluations for individuals with disabilities on a monthly basis and educating families and caregivers on proper care techniques.
Due to the absence of special education facilities in Mhondoro, Breaking Barriers plans to collaborate with the district’s headmaster and councilor to introduce free tutoring sessions for children with disabilities weekly.

Mr. Makoni expressed his intention to expand this initiative nationwide once they establish firm connections in Mhondoro.
“We launched the Breaking Barriers Disability Service in Zimbabwe today. We have given food, clothing, and trash cans,” Makoni stated.
Accompanying Mr. Makoni were Breaking Barriers employees, including operations manager Mr. Samuel Jimah and volunteers Mrs. Loreen Kanyepi and Mr. Success Makoni. Nurse assistants Fungai Nyarugwe, Mpizwa Alfazema, Mark Naziri, Charles Charama, and Rasheed Gwarada were commended for their dedicated work during the outreach program.
Breaking Barriers Disability Services was founded by Lonestar Makoni and Ruvimbo Makoni in Australia over four years ago, now employing over 190 individuals. Recently, they expanded their services to Zimbabwe with Breaking Barriers Disability Service.
Mr. Makoni’s leadership was recognized at the Australia Disability Service Awards in December 2023, where he received the Most Outstanding CEO/Director 2023 award.
