Ex-radio presenter convicted of alcohol theft

EX PRESENTER 'Lorraine Charlotte Bgoya' STEALS BOOZE

Lorraine Charlotte Bgoya, 37, also known as Lochnation, was fined US$100 for stealing two bottles of wine from Food Lover’s Market in Avondale, Harare, when she was a radio broadcaster.

Yesterday, Bgoya pled guilty to two counts of stealing when he appeared before Mr. Gamuchirai Gore, a judge in Harare.

She was fined US$28 and ordered to return the money to the complainant as a condition of her one month suspended jail term on the second offence.

The complaint is Food Lover’s Market Avondale, represented by its internal security officer, Mr Nurse Chiweshe.

At around 11:46 a.m. on February 21, prosecutor Ms Ropi informed the court that Bgoya discreetly removed a 750 ml bottle of Malibu Liquor off the shelf, placed it in her purse and left Food Lover’s Market without anybody noticing.

Then, at around 5:30 in the afternoon on February 24, Bgoya returned to the same store, removed a 750 millilitre bottle of Beefeater London Strawberry wine, and stashed it away in her maroon purse.

All the while, Chiweshe was watching her on CCTV.

After that, Bgoya left the store, and Chiweshe tracked after her, eventually capturing her.

Upon searching her purse, authorities retrieved two bottles of spirits: Beefeater London Strawberry wine (750 ml) and Malibu spirits (750 ml).

After reviewing the surveillance footage, Chiweshe learned that the theft of the Malibu spirits occurred on February 21.

We were able to retrieve $28 out of a total stolen value of $57.
