    National Prosecution Authority Releases City Crime Statistics

    The National Prosecution Authority (NPA) has disclosed that approximately 1828 theft crime  cases have been processed in the courts solely within Harare Province.

    According to an official statement released by the NPA on April 19, a total of 6800 various cases have been documented across Harare, Chitungwiza, Epworth, Norton, and Mbare courts at the Magistrates’ level.

    Out of these, 3930 cases have reached completion, while 2870 are still awaiting determination by the courts.

    Offenses range from robbery, indecent assault, assault, fraud, section 70 violations, stock theft, criminal abuse of duty, unlawful entry, to dangerous drugs acts, among others.

    Notably, domestic violence cases stand at 1521, marking the second highest category of offenses within Harare Province.

    The NPA asserts its unwavering commitment to combat crime, as evidenced by the 991 assault cases recorded during the reviewed period.

    Additionally, 721 robberies and 499 cases of unlawful entry have been prosecuted.

    On a contrasting note, the province saw a mere nine cases of unlawful termination of pregnancy, marking the lowest count within Harare Province.

    Efforts against drug and substance abuse have resulted in the prosecution of 276 cases.

    Furthermore, the province has dealt with 10 cases of ZESA Act breaches, 21 under the PTC Act, 17 under the Data Protection Act, 34 under the Parks and Wildlife Act, and 15 related to Money Laundering.
