Prominent Marondera Businessman Accuses Police and Prosecutors of Negligence and Interference

Marondera| Francisco Marconati, a well-known businessman in Marondera, has recently raised serious allegations against the Police Central Investigation Department (CID) and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), claiming unfair treatment and negligence in handling criminal cases he reported against his former business partner, Li Song.

Marconati asserts that the lack of action by law enforcement authorities has resulted in repeated arrests on what he believes are fabricated charges.

In a strongly worded letter addressed to Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga, Marconati expressed his frustration with the way his cases have been handled.

He accused Li Song of externalizing millions of dollars to offshore accounts, which he argues has had a detrimental impact on Zimbabwe’s economy.

Despite providing compelling evidence to support his claims, Marconati expressed disappointment in the apparent reluctance of law enforcement authorities to take action.

One of the cases highlighted in Marconati’s letter involves an alleged attempted murder committed by Li Song, which was reported to the Dornington Police Station earlier this year.

Despite recording statements from both the accused and witnesses, Marconati claims that the investigating officers have shown little willingness to bring the suspect to court, citing prolonged delays and a lack of progress in the case.

In an attempt to expedite the legal process, Marconati requested that the case be transferred to CID Homicide Harare due to concerns over potential interference and delays resulting from the accused’s alleged connections to high-ranking officials.

However, his requests were reportedly denied by the officer in charge at Dornington Police Station.

Furthermore, Marconati drew attention to other criminal charges against Li Song, including money laundering and fraud, involving substantial amounts of money embezzled from their business. Despite reporting these offenses to the authorities, he claimed that the cases have made little headway.

Marconati also criticised the NPA for allegedly refusing to set trial dates for the matters he reported, citing vague reasons for the delays and raising suspicions of interference in the legal process.

It is worth noting that Marconati had previously taken legal action against CID bosses for the delays in processing his cases, which ultimately led to the dockets being brought to court. However, he expressed concerns that the NPA’s refusal to proceed with the cases indicates potential interference and a lack of accountability within the justice system.

These allegations by Marconati shed light on broader concerns regarding the effectiveness and integrity of law enforcement and judicial processes in addressing white-collar crimes and ensuring justice for victims.

The accusations raise questions about potential interference and the need for greater accountability within the system to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of individuals affected by such crimes.

The Police Commissioner General and the National Prosecuting Authority have yet to respond to Francisco Marconati’s allegations.
